University of Magdeburg

The Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg has decided for EGOTEC in the form of a campus licence for the entire university.

The previous solution in the Intranet and Internet was too inflexible and caused unnecessary administrative effort, which in turn strains the actuality and layout. The aim was a better and more attractive outward presentation (Internet) as well as an increase of inward university transparency (Intranet) - besides this resulted in saving of costs by reducing the administration effort.

In the first step an intensive research and evaluation phase was completed. After this, the number of providers was limited to three (Imperia, Reddot, EGOTEC), whereby great value has been set on flexibility and adaptability of the solution. In the context of a product demonstration they were tested more precisely on their efficiency. At this, EGOTEC's bid has been accepted because of its very good applicability in the university sector. Besides the various modules and adaptability, the optimal extensibility by employees and students of the University of Magdeburg were decisive.
The flexible concept and the adaptable architecture are convincing because the connecting of existing databases could be realised comfortably due to the script language PHP. The design and the layout adjustments can be made by the employees themselves, for this purpose commercially available HTML-editors like Macromedia Dreamwaver can be used. This way, the designers can work in their usual setting and realise the adaptation of the connection into EGOTEC.

By its flexible and modular structure, its platform, operating system and browser-independence, EGOTEC offers optimally integrated solutions for colleges and universities. EGOTEC is delivered completely in the PHP source code, extensions can be accomplished with the API itself. By this, a combination of flexibility and extensibility of open-source-solutions is achieved and the disadvantages involved, such as insufficient documentation and a lack of producer support are prevented.
